Bonjour! I’m the floral designer for Blue Sage Farm. Since 2001, my husband and I have lived on our hobby farm in the Kelowna countryside surrounded by fragrant flower gardens and nearby forests. As well as flowers, our eco-friendly farm grows vegetables and fruits, raises chickens for eggs and goats for entertainment. My floral creations are made here in the farm studio.
I am a certified florist, a school teacher, a gardener and my artistic background consists of pottery, drawing, painting and fabric art. Floral design is the perfect medium for me as I get to blend all my previous art knowledge into this organic and natural sculptural work. It is a gift that this art form is not done in isolation, as it connects me deeply to nature and people.
My designs are made primarily using our fresh and dried seasonal flowers, which are often supplemented with commercial blooms and silk flowers. This multi-sourcing of material gives me the freedom to play with a rich palette of colours, a wide variety of textures and forms.
Besides creating flowers for weddings and seasonal flower arrangements for clients, I am continually working alongside other creative artists through editorial styled shoots. I have also had the pleasure to create floral shoes and headpieces for Opera Kelowna’s opera the Marriage of Figaro and the promotional publicity for La Boheme. It has been exciting and rewarding to see my work on the stage and to have had it published on social media sites and in Canadian and international magazines.
